2008 December Daily and Wreaths

Last year I saw a great idea where an advent calendar of cute little boxes was made and inside was filled with special things to do - or little things - for the days until Christmas. My calendar is kind of patched together and not really homemade and crafty - but it works!
.
(I am a specialist at having really great ideas and intentions but stink at the execution because there is never enough time in the day to get to all the things I think about) (or I don't bother doing things because in my head they look better that what I am attempting) (ALSO I'm working on doing things just to try instead of doing things when I am going to do them perfect...so putting it off until NEVER)
.
Ethan is at the age where Christmas is pure wonder and magic and Beckett is amused by most anything so I wanted to try and do something special each day. We were trying to focus on the "doing" and "togetherness" instead of the STUFF though we included some small presents in the days of the calendar AND "because we are in a RECESSION" as Troy loves to say right now.
.
As behind as I am with the ongoings of our family here in my website ramblings - I am going to pick up again and try to dust off those blog cobwebs and post everyday about the special moments the calendar brought.
.
On another note - we made our best effort to not start getting excited about Christmas and Christmas-y things until December was upon us because a few weeks is already a really long time for small kids to be pumped up and waiting for the day to arrive. However, Auntie Tracy was coming over for a Sunday visit and it was the last day of November...
.
We went on a walk through the forest and got clippings and trimmings. Then we went to the coffee shop for some hot chocolate type drinks - even Becks got his first one! We walked back to our place and made wreaths together. Ethan's was awesome - he poked all of the stems into the wreath base sticking straight out so it was like a tiny crazy looking centrepiece. Just awesome that he did it all by himself.
.
We had a wonderful time making sure that no one (Beckett) ingested poisonous berries or got a hold of the super sharp industrial scissors lying around while trying to craft our masterpieces. Ethan was trimming the cedar clippings into minuscule pieces - as usual he was thrilled to get a hold of his special scissors and proceeded to clip furiously away while he had them. I guess that sounds kind of not wonderful but it was in its own way. I suppose I could say that it was chaotic (as most things at our house are) but still really special and fun.
